Design For Asia Award 2008
Recognizing good designs that are most influential within Asia

Half of the world's population lives in Asia and the unique characteristics of this vast, growing and rapidly maturing market are becoming important design considerations for designers and enterprises across the world - affecting products and interiors, apparel and communications. The Design for Asia (DFA) seeks to raise awareness amongst businesses and the public about the value of good design as an essential component in business success, as well as for a sustainable, higher quality of life for all.

The DFA Award is presented to companies and designers from around the world that have achieved business success through good design with a notable impact on Asia. Since its inception in 2003, the Award has shown rapid growth. In keeping with current trends, this year's award will be expanded to ensure that the excellence of design in Asia gains a proper form of recognition - to reflect the abundant number of excellent designs.

There are six categories of award:
- DFA Gold Award
- DFA Silver Award
- DFA Bronze Award
- DFA Grand Award
- DFA Outstanding Design from Greater China Award
- DFA Special Awards

DFA Gold, Silver, Bronze Awards
Up to three best works from each of the 18 categories will be awarded a Gold, Silver or Bronze award selected by panels of design experts from around Asia.

DFA Grand Award
The DFA Grand Award commends the best designs among all categories based on their design excellence, influence in Asia and commercial success. A maximum of ten designs will be awarded.

DFA Outstanding Design from Greater China Award
This recognises outstanding designs that originate from the Greater China region, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. A maximum of ten designs will be awarded.

DFA Special Awards
This is for design solutions that excel in fields beyond the definitions of the traditional categories and have been demonstrative in improving quality of life, or inspiring future design development. The following three special awards will be awarded:
- DFA Special Award for Sustainability
- DFA Special Award for Culture
- DFA Special Award for Technology
